Asian handicap is a form of spread betting that eliminates the draw outcome by using half-goal and quarter-goal lines. It originated in Asian betting markets and is now popular worldwide, especially for soccer. Quarter lines split your stake across two adjacent half-lines.
A quarter-line like -0.75 (also written as -0.5/-1) splits your stake evenly across the two nearest half-lines: -0.5 and -1. Each half settles independently — you can win both, lose both, or win one and push the other, giving you a partial win or loss.
A push occurs when the result lands exactly on a whole-number handicap line. Your full stake is returned with no profit or loss. This can only happen with whole-number lines (0, -1, -2, etc.); half-lines always produce a win or loss.
Asian handicap lines often offer better value because they eliminate the draw and provide more granular options. Quarter-lines let you hedge between two outcomes, reducing risk. The format is also easier to compare across different sportsbooks.
